New Life Academy Gala & Auction in Woodbury

Now in its 18th year, the Gala and Auction (set for April 5) is New Life Academy’s largest fundraising event. “The primary goal is to celebrate and foster community among New Life families and friends of the academy,” director of annual giving Michelle Rogers says. The festivities include live and silent auctions and a dinner featuring a patriotic theme. Bid on top prizes such as a seven–night trip to Hawaii, a jersey autographed by Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer and an iPad.

Inside Woodbury’s Math and Science Academy

Gone are the days of the neighborhood school being the only educational choice, which presents parents with that wonderfully terrifying task of picking an institution that will best serve their family’s education values. While we Woodbury residents are fortunate to have great schools all around, we also have a gem—for those inclined toward math and science—right here in town. It’s the Math and Science Academy (MSA).

Woodbury’s Successful College-readiness Program, AVID, Expands

Yasmine Abdelal, a sophomore at East Ridge High School, has always been sure of one thing. “I’m really determined to go to college. My family immigrated [to Minnesota] from Egypt, and nobody had the chance to go. My family’s really supportive of me,” she says brightly. But preparing for college—taking the right classes and navigating the labyrinth of applications and scholarships—can be pretty overwhelming, especially for kids who are first-generation college students.
