Prelude to Fall

A resident of the Colby Lake area since 1991, Julie Hall is a longtime photography enthusiast. “I took some photography classes in high school and college. Prior to an Alaskan vacation in 2013, I took one through community education to refresh some of my photography skills,” Hall says. “That’s when I purchased my current camera, a Nikon D5100.”

Hall used that camera, with a 300mm lens, for this colorful photo. “This was taken on my front steps,” she says. “I enjoy gardening, so I take lots of pictures of my flowers.” Read more about Prelude to Fall

Chipmunk Charm

Hoping to attract chipmunks, Deborah Tom set a dish of food on the roof of her home last summer. The seventh-grader then grabbed her Canon PowerShot SX170 IS and started clicking. “I like taking lots of pictures of the chipmunks,” says the novice photographer, whose favorite subjects are animals, nature and sports. Last Glance: The Perfect Lineup

Mandi Folks is a stay-at-home mom who has lived in Woodbury for nearly three years. Last summer, on a beautiful July day, her sister asked Folks to take a photo to use on an invitation for her niece Greta’s first birthday party. “It turned out so cute that I thought it might place in the [Focus on Woodbury] photo contest,” Folks says.

Greta is joined by Ike, a Border Jack terrier; Hawk, a Parson Russell terrier; and Happy, a Labrador retriever. Folks says, “This picture is extra special to my sister because it’s one of the last pictures of Happy; he passed away last fall.” Read more about Last Glance: The Perfect Lineup
